In 2003, UNESPA abandoned the system of representational presidency and implemented an organisational scheme whereby the Association is run by a team of professional managers devoted full-time to this task. When the Articles of Association were amended in late 2005, explicit mention was included to the new structure. The current Articles make a distinction between the management of Unespa and the Association's management bodies.
Management of Unespa: The highest responsibility is held by the President, to whom the General Secretariat reports. Activities are organised around three main divisions:
- Central Services: This division includes services that are common to all insurers, such as Legal Advice, International, Communication, Research Services... It reports directly to the General Secretariat.
- Personal Insurance: This generally includes insurance whose basic objective is the protection of the individual. A Division Manager is responsible for this area.
- General Insurance: This includes other insurance areas, mainly dealing with the protection of assets. A Division Manager is responsible for this area.
In addition to this, UNESPA is formed by a number of committees that represent the members. These committees operate as support and consultation units and produce reports and proposals for the Executive Committee. There are two different types of committees:
- Technical Committees, whose field of action is centred on one insurance area or on a group of areas. These have a President and a Standing Committee.
- Functional Committees, whose activities pursue issues of common interest to all members.
- The Technical Committees currently operating are the following (president):
- Life and Pension Committee (Mario Berenguer)
- Motor Committee (Antonio Huerta)
- Property, Civil Liability and Transport Committee (Ramón Nadal)
- Reinsurance Committee (José Ruiz)
- Credit and Suretyship Committee (David Capdevilla)
- Funeral Insurance Committee (Carlos Fernández)
- Health Committee (Teótimo Saéz)
- Tax Committee
- Industrial Relations Committee
- Investment Committee
- Accounting Committee
- Mutual Insurance Companies Committee (José Boada)
