Cover for pets

24/05/2007 - por Kaaper

If you keep a goldfish, it will probably be hard for your pet to cause any harm to third parties. But if you have a dog or a cat, the situation may be very different. In Spain, it is compulsory to take out insurance cover for third-party liability in the case of dangerous breeds of dog. But if you live in Madrid or the Basque Country, insurance is obligatory for all dogs.

You can find lots of insurance institutions on the market with specific policies for your pet. You can even include cover for vet’s bills and so avoid unpleasant surprises.

Another option is to check whether your home insurance, which will have cover for damage caused by members of your immediate family, for example if a plant pot falls and damages a car, also covers your pets. Ask your insurer, or the insurance broker you normally work with.
